Who built her?

Beitrag von mattyg » Fr 7. Mär 2008, 23:59

I am sorry but I dont speak any German. I have just bought a 50 sq metre Seefahrtkreuzer and I would like to find out as much as I can about her. The only information that I have is that 'Esliina II' was likley built in Kiel in 1936. Her registration on DSV Standerschein number is / was 10119. She can be seen at http://www.easternyachts.com/eslina/. Does anyone recognise her or know who built her. Any information greatfully recieved.

Hello

After a long wait I have received from the Broker some old papers. I wonder if these might assist anyone in helping me find out more about Esliina. There is a diagram / plan of her labeled Kreuzeryacht 'Bavaria' . In the botton right hand corner is the following text but it is very faded "Nach Aufma**n Kiel Dietrichsdorf". I have a 1997 Flaggenzertifikat which shows a manufactured date of 1938 and not 1936 as I was told, but shows maker unknown.

Dear friend!

The Name of the shipyard must be Wilke. This shipyard do not exist now.

Thank you for your help. Would there be records kept somewhere from the boat yard, perhaps a maritime museum or library. There does not seem to be much on the internet about Wilke, does anyone know anything about the yard and when it closed. Thanks

Dear Friend,

it seems unlikely to me that this yacht is a measured "50sqm Seefahrtkreuzer". They are quite rare and not many were build in Kiel. The only yard i found in our register (http://www.fky.org/prestodata/search.ph ... nguage=eng) was the still existing Rathje-yard. They build the WASSERSLEBEN in 1936.

But there is a BAVARIA from 1938! It is a 6 KR built in Berlin but located in Kiel. She was owned by the famous Dr. Rudolf Hell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolf_Hell) who invented the fax.

A list of existing 6 KR is

http://www.fky.org/prestodata/execsearc ... nguage=eng

(link in one line without spaces)

10.4m length over deck seems to fit quite well. The Bowsprit seems not to be original. A typical 50 sqm Seefahrtkreuzer should be about 12.5 m lod.

I hope these information will help you.

Best regards,
Ingo

Dear Ingo,

Thank you very much for the information. So I dont have a seefahrtkreuzer. It will bee interesting to follow up the connection with Dr Hell. Perhaps if I write to the Kieler Y.C. they may perhaps have some photographs of Dr Hell's yacht. The 'blueprint' I have shows a different coach roof configuration to Esliina's but this may have been changed over the years. The 'blueprint' shows a smaller coach roof that is boat shaped, ie comes to a point. It would be nice to think that I have Dr Hell's boat but I am a bit puzzled as to why the 'blueprint has the Nach Aufma**n Kiel Dietrichsdorf". Could it perhaps have been designed in Kiel and made in Berlin?

Once again, thank you very much for your help.

Best regards

Dear Matthew,

the phrase "nach Aufmassen" sounds like your blueprint's lines had been taken off the existing boat, so it seems quiet possible that your boat is the "Bavaria".

Best wishes,
